On November 14, the second China-Africa Agricultural Cooperation Forum was held in Sanya, Hainan. The forum fully implemented the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s important speech at the China-Africa Leaders’ Dialogue, and was committed to expanding the depth and breadth of China-Africa agricultural cooperation and helping Africa achieve Sustainable agricultural development and agricultural modernization. Tang Renjian, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
Tang Renjian pointed out that under the strategic guidance of Chinese and African leaders and the efforts of all parties, China-Africa agricultural cooperation has achieved fruitful results. Mechanism building has been further improved, and both sides have continued dialogue and exchanges on issues of common concern such as food security, poverty reduction, and agricultural response to climate change; capacity building has become more effective, and the China-Africa agricultural technology and talent training system has been further improved, with more than 300 advanced and applicable technologies The promotion in Africa has benefited more than 1 million small farmers in Africa; economic and trade cooperation has grown faster, and the trade volume of agricultural products between China and Africa has nearly doubled compared with 10 years ago; the stock of agricultural investment has maintained a double-digit growth rate.
Tang Renjian said that China will firmly support Africa in realizing the African Union's 2063 Agenda, carry out practical measures to improve Africa's food crops and agricultural production capacity, and help Africa achieve food security and agricultural modernization at an early date. China will build a China-Africa Overseas Science and Technology Center for Tropical Agriculture, establish a China-Africa Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance, and build a number of China-Africa joint demonstration and training centers for modern agricultural technology exchanges to encourage more business entities to enter Africa. In the next three years, another 1,000 agricultural science and technology and management personnel will be trained for Africa, and China-Africa agricultural trade volume will exceed US$20 billion within 10 years.
The forum is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China and the People's Government of Hainan Province. The forum released cooperation measures for China's agricultural and rural tribes to implement the "China's Plan to Assist African Agricultural Modernization" (2024-2026) and the China-Africa Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance initiative; relevant government departments, international organizations, scientific research institutions and enterprises signed a number of cooperation agreements.
Ma Youxiang, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, presided over the opening ceremony. Liu Xiaoming, Governor of Hainan Province, delivered a speech. Wei Baigang, Chief Economist and Director of the General Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Gu Gang, Vice Governor of Hainan Province, Ministers of Agriculture of African countries, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the African Green Revolution Alliance, and The Secretary-General of the Chinese Follow-up Committee of the African Cooperation Forum and others attended the meeting. More than 300 representatives from China and African countries, as well as relevant international institutions, scientific research institutions and enterprises attended the forum.
