Xinhua News Agency, Lhasa, November 13th (Reporter Li Jian, Sorangdeji) The Lizi Port, a new trade channel between China and South Asia, was successfully opened and put into operation on the 13th. This is the fourth land port in Xizang to be officially cleared after Zhangmu, Jilong and Pulan.
Lizi Port is located in Yare Township, Zhongba County, Shigatse City, Xizang Autonomous Region. It is the highest port in Xizang, adjacent to Nepal, and has long been a salt and grain trading point between the two countries in history. In 2017, the Lizi Port was included in the national port opening plan and was approved by the State Council for opening up in 2019. Since the start of construction at the port, a total of 400 million yuan has been invested to build 23 projects, including the national gate joint inspection building, inbound goods inspection site, customs emergency support center, and border inspection emergency and information command center. They passed national acceptance on September 19 of this year.
Wang Fanghong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shigatse Municipal Committee and Mayor of Shigatse, said that the opening of the ports has further improved the layout of Xizang's ports and helped build a pattern of all-round opening up. At the same time, it is of great practical significance to build an open channel to South Asia and a Himalayan economic cooperation belt, and promote the high-quality joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" between China and Nepal.
