Notes on top dressing with organic fertilizer

11

Organic fertilizer is not only an ideal base fertilizer, but also a top dressing fertilizer. It is the main fertilizer variety that provides nutrients during crop growth. When using organic fertilizers as topdressing, the following precautions should be taken:
1. Advance pursuit. Organic fertilizers contain nutrients, but their quantity is limited. The release of a large amount of slow-release nutrients requires a certain process, and organic fertilizers should be applied a few days in advance.
2. Apply high-quality organic fertilizer. During the rapid growth period of crops, a large amount of nutrients such as nitrogen and potassium are required. Generally, the nitrogen and potassium nutrient content in organic fertilizers is not high. To ensure the nutrient demand for rapid crop growth, high-quality organic fertilizers with high nitrogen and potassium nutrient content should be selected.
3. Develop a reasonable allocation ratio for base and topdressing fertilizers. When the ground temperature is low, microbial activity is weak, and the release of organic fertilizer nutrients is slow. The majority of the application amount can be used as base fertilizer; When the soil temperature is high, microorganisms have a strong ability to decompose. If the amount of base fertilizer is too much, the fertilizer is excessively decomposed by microorganisms before planting. After planting, the fertilizer effect is immediately exerted, which may sometimes cause crop overgrowth. Therefore, cultivating crops under high temperature conditions, reducing the amount of base fertilizer application and increasing the amount of topdressing.
4. Seedling cultivation should be done in moderation. Crop seedlings require less nutrients, but insufficient nutrients cannot form strong seedlings, which is not conducive to transplantation and future crop growth. Mature organic fertilizer, with uniform nutrient release, is an ideal fertilizer for seedling cultivation. Generally, a certain amount of grass carbon, vermiculite or perlite is added to the fermented organic fertilizer, and the soil is mixed evenly as the seedling substrate. The amount of organic fertilizer used should not exceed 10% of the total weight of the nutrient soil.
