How to manage grapes in summer? How to manage grapes

The temperature difference between day and night in summer is relatively large, which is a good time for the rapid growth of grape vines. In some regions, grapes have entered a critical period of flowering, fruiting, and young fruit expansion. So how to manage summer grape cultivation?

1. Combination of deep and shallow fertilizer application

Grape fertilization can be applied in a deep or shallow manner depending on the type of fertilizer used.

Chemical fertilizers have the characteristics of fast decomposition, easy absorption, and also easy volatilization. During the growth period, a trench should be opened within a distance of 0.8-1 meters from the main vine of the grape, and then covered with soil.

Farm manure is dormant in winter, and combined with garden plowing, the fertilizer is mixed with topsoil and applied. Spreading can improve the deepening characteristics of the topsoil, make the soil loose, reduce compaction, and improve the drought resistance performance of plants.

2. Not to irrigate too much before flowering

Even if it is dry and the temperature is high before flowering, the soil temperature is relatively low. After irrigation, it inhibits the rise of soil temperature, affects root activity, and reduces the absorption of fertilizer by the root system. Therefore, the amount of irrigation water should not be too large at this time.

Therefore, the growth and development of leaves are accelerated during this period, and there is a greater demand for trace element iron. Irrigation causes the soil temperature to be too low, hindering the absorption of iron elements, and leading to leaf yellowing, exhibiting symptoms of iron deficiency.

3. Fertilizer selection should be appropriate

During the flowering period, phosphorus fertilizer should be the main fertilizer, combined with medium and trace elements such as boron, zinc, and iron. When the length of the new shoot internodes is suitable and the leaves are plump and green, nitrogen fertilizer should be applied less or no more. On the contrary, an appropriate amount of nitrogen fertilizer should be applied in conjunction.

During the fruit coloring period, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are mainly used. After fruit picking, apply an appropriate amount of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium ternary compound fertilizer to promote early recovery of fruit tree function and prevent premature aging.

Grapes are fruit trees that require more potassium, and potassium sulfate is better when applying potassium fertilizer.
