Recently, some farmers have reported that their own cucumbers have developed a "hollow" phenomenon. Compared with normal cucumbers, which have a crisp and moist taste, hollow cucumbers have a dry and astringent taste, making it difficult to eat, which greatly affects vegetable farmers' profits. Below is an analysis of the causes of cucumber hollowing and practical prevention and control measures proposed.
Reasons for hollow cucumber
1. Malnutrition.
Without reasonable fertilization, the soil fertility is poor and the nutrients are insufficient, which can not meet the nutritional requirements of normal cucumber growth. Incomplete pollination of female flowers results in low dry matter synthesis after fertilization, weak plant growth, and poor root growth, leading to hollow symptoms in cucumbers.
2. Improper fertilization.
During the process of cucumber cultivation, if nitrogen fertilizer is applied or bio organic fertilizer and farmhouse fertilizer are not applied, the nutrient elements in the soil are imbalanced, which affects the absorption of other elements by the root system, leading to cucumber hollowing. When there is a lack of boron or potassium, the frequency of cucumber hollowing will increase.
3. High temperature reasons.
At night, if the temperature is too high, cucumbers are prone to overgrowth, resulting in imbalanced reproductive and nutritional growth, and the appearance of hollowing.
4. Moisture reasons.
If the ground temperature is too low or too high, it can cause damage to the root system, leaving cucumbers in a state of water scarcity and prone to hollowing.
Prevention and Control of Cucumber Hollow
1. Choose good varieties with strong fruit bearing ability.
2 Strengthen the management of fertilizer and water, provide ventilation and light, and increase the application of decomposed organic fertilizer.
3. Bind vines in a timely manner, remove yellow leaves, and harvest them in a timely manner.
