Sudden fall disease is a major disease in tomato seedling stage, which is distributed throughout the country and occurs more commonly in winter and spring seedbeds. In mild cases, it can cause a large number of dead seedlings in the seedbeds and a shortage of seedlings. In severe cases, it can cause a large area of dead seedlings in the seedbeds.
Symptoms of tomato collapse disease
Disease can occur from sowing to planting, and when seeds germinate and are unearthed, they become infected, causing the embryonic stem and cotyledons to rot. During the seedling stage, the base of the seedling stem presents a watery spot, and the diseased part gradually turns yellow brown. The epidermis peels off and constricts into a linear shape, rapidly spreading and expanding around the stem. Before the cotyledons wither, the seedling suddenly collapses, causing mass death. In the initial stage, only a few seedlings developed disease, and after a few days, they spread and expanded outward, causing sudden collapse of the seedlings in large numbers.
Prevention and Control of Tomato Sudden Disease
1. Cultivate strong seedlings
According to the temperature requirements of different stages of seedling growth, the temperature of the seedbed should be controlled to prevent seedling overgrowth, cultivate strong seedlings, and enhance seedling resistance.
2. Nursery bed disinfection
Each square meter of bed soil is mixed with 5g of 50% carbendazim wettable powder and 50kg of sieved fine soil, and the seeds are covered with soil when sowing.
