1. Characteristics of needing fertilizer
Each growth stage of potatoes has different fertilizer requirements, but the nutritional requirements are also comprehensive. For example, when potatoes are sown and reach the seedling stage, a large amount of nitrogen and potassium fertilizers are needed, with the demand for both fertilizers reaching about 1/5 of the total amount, and the demand for phosphorus fertilizer is relatively small. At the flowering and budding stage, there is a high demand for potassium fertilizer, followed by nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers. The demand for nitrogen and phosphorus increases during the mature and swollen stage. So when fertilizing, it is necessary to match the nutrients of fertilizers according to the soil fertility and the growth stage of potatoes.
2. Bottom fertilizer
Potatoes prefer a cool environment and require fertile and loose soil. As the growth period of potatoes is relatively short, a large proportion of fully decomposed base fertilizer should be used when fertilizing. This can effectively improve the soil planting environment and promote the emergence and growth of potatoes. Base fertilizer is important when fertilizing, and when using farm manure, it is also necessary to appropriately mix nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and other nutrients to improve the quality of potatoes. Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers are the basic nutrients for plant growth. Ensuring sufficient nutrition is essential for better potato growth and increased yield.
3. Top dressing
The hot and rainy environment in summer is an important time for potato topdressing. The first topdressing is seedling protection fertilizer, which should be applied when 80% of the seedlings have grown to 12-16 centimeters. When topdressing, it can be done in conjunction with tillage and soil cultivation. The topdressing fertilizer can be a mixture of urea and water to promote the growth of plant stems and leaves. The second application of sweet potato fertilizer during the sprouting and tuber growth stages of potatoes meets the nutritional requirements for potato enlargement. The second fertilizer is mainly nitrogen fertilizer, and the amount is determined based on the growth of the plant.
4. Potassium fertilizer
Based on the experience of planting potatoes, it can be seen that potatoes have a high demand for potassium fertilizer, as the yield of potatoes is relatively high, the demand for potassium fertilizer naturally increases. When potatoes are in the sweet potato promotion period, apply the corresponding potassium sulfate according to the planting area, and then do a good job of ridge and soil cultivation. And combined with the work of tillage and weeding, sufficient potassium fertilizer can significantly increase potato yield. Therefore, we can apply potassium fertilizer appropriately according to the condition of the plants during the planting process to increase potato yield.
