Key points of planting techniques for water spinach

1

Water spinach is a type of green leafy vegetable, also known as water spinach. It is an annual vine herbaceous plant in the family Convolvulaceae and the genus Sweet Potato. Its stem is round and hollow, without hair; The leaves are triangular in shape and long elliptical in shape, without hair. The cultivation of water spinach is relatively common and the planting method is simple. The following measures are mainly taken:

1、 Sowing time of water spinach

Water spinach likes temperature and humidity, and the suitable temperature for stem and leaf growth is 27 degrees Celsius. It can withstand high temperatures of 35-40 degrees Celsius, and growth stagnates below 10 degrees Celsius. It is not resistant to cold, and the stems and leaves wither in the event of frost. Seeds can only germinate when they are above 15 degrees Celsius, and seeds below 10 degrees Celsius cannot germinate. From this, it can be seen that hollow seeds are suitable for sowing in mid April to mid August, but they should not be sown too early in the open spring.

2、 Water spinach fertilizing soil

Water spinach is a leafy vegetable made from stems and leaves. The stronger the stems and leaves, the higher the yield. So, fertile soil is needed as support, which requires the plot where water spinach is planted to have a deep soil layer and sufficient organic matter content. Therefore, it is necessary to deeply cultivate the soil and apply sufficient organic fertilizer and nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers. In general, 3-5 cubic meters or more of organic fertilizer per mu, or 300 kilograms of commercial organic fertilizer, 60 kilograms of compound fertilizer for fertilizer, and 25 kilograms of nitrogen as base fertilizer.

3、 Sowing of water spinach

The water absorption rate of water spinach seeds is relatively slow. If dry seeds are sown, it takes a long time to emerge, which affects the planting cycle of vegetables. Therefore, soaking and germination should be carried out before sowing. The method is to immerse the seeds in clean water for 12 hours, remove them, and place them in a 25 degree environment for germination. During this period, rinse them once a day until 60-70% of the seeds are exposed.

Sowing can be done through sowing or drilling. Spreading is the process of evenly spreading seeds on a well watered border surface, and then covering it with about 1cm of fine soil. Drill a trench with a depth of 2 centimeters at a depth of 35 cm. Spread the seeds evenly in the trench, cover the soil with the same thickness, and do not cover the soil too thick.

4、 Field management of water spinach

1. Intercropping: To eliminate the phenomenon of abandoned seedlings and prevent them from growing excessively. During the 2-leaf period, remove the thick seedlings. The seedlings sown should be kept at a spacing of about 10 cm square meters, the seedlings sown in drill should be kept at a spacing of 5-8 cm, and the seedlings sown should be kept at a spacing of 10-15 cm square meters.

2. Watering: Do not water before pruning, but water thoroughly after pruning. In the future, as the temperature increases, the growth of plants will accelerate, the water demand will also increase, and the watering frequency will also increase. It is necessary to keep the soil moist. When the temperature drops in autumn, the frequency of watering can be reduced, but it cannot make it dry

3. Fertilization: The growth of the stems and leaves of water spinach requires a large amount of nutrients, and fertilization is more than other leafy vegetables, mainly using multi-element fertilizers.
