According to the growth and development characteristics of walnuts, topdressing should be carried out during critical stages such as germination, hard core, and kernel filling. The amount of topdressing for walnut trees increases with the increase of tree age and walnut yield. Timely watering should be done after each topdressing to improve fertilizer efficiency.
Fertilization methods for walnuts
In actual production, the fertilization methods for walnuts mainly include the following:
1. Radial fertilization
Dig 4-6 radial fertilization ditches outward along the horizontal root direction, with the trunk as the center and 1-1.5 meters away from the trunk. The ditch gradually deepens from the inside to the outside, and the length of the ditch varies with the size of the tree crown, usually 1-2 meters.
Apply the fertilizer evenly into the ditch and bury it properly. Each time fertilization is applied, the positions of the ditches should be staggered to expand the fertilization surface.
2. Circular fertilization
Dig a circular ditch along the edge of the tree crown, with a width of 40-50 centimeters and a depth of 30-40 centimeters. But it should be noted that this method is easy to cut horizontal roots and has a small fertilization range, making it suitable for young trees under 4 years old.
3. Cave fertilization
Mainly used for topdressing. Starting from 1/2 of the crown radius of the tree trunk as the center, excavate several small holes with uniform distribution. Apply fertilizer to the holes and bury them properly.
