On the morning of January 18th local time, Chinese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Tang Renjian and US Minister of Agriculture Vilsack jointly chaired the seventh meeting of the China US Joint Committee on Agriculture (hereinafter referred to as the "Joint Committee") in Washington, D.C., to restart the China US Agricultural Cooperation Mechanism, reaffirming that the Joint Committee is an important channel for regular exchanges between the agricultural departments of the two countries, and promising to cherish, carefully care for, and stably operate this mechanism. Both sides exchanged candid and in-depth views on climate smart agriculture, food security, civil exchanges, and trade facilitation.
China is willing to work with the United States to pragmatically promote new steps in agricultural cooperation between China and the United States, and work together to stabilize expectations for food and agricultural development.
Vilsack welcomed and thanked Tang Renjian for his visit to the United States, highly praised China's stable growth in grain development for many years, and expressed that the United States attaches great importance to cooperation in various fields of agriculture with China. He is willing to take care of each other's concerns, respond to each other's activities, and create a good atmosphere for the healthy development of US China agricultural relations under the Joint Committee mechanism.
According to the meeting agenda, Tang Renjian chaired cooperation topics such as climate smart agriculture, food security, and civil exchanges, while Vilsack chaired trade facilitation issues. Both sides have reached a consensus to establish a working group on food security and nutritional health under the joint committee mechanism.
In the afternoon of that day, Tang Renjian attended a dialogue with representatives from the American Agricultural Business Association and businesses, and delivered a keynote speech. The dialogue will be chaired by Allen, President of the US China National Committee on Trade, and 11 representatives including Cohen, Chairman and CEO of the Cohen Group, will give speeches. Before the meeting, Tang Renjian met with Alan and Cohen.
During his stay in the United States, Tang Renjian also met with the Chief Agricultural Negotiator of the Office of the United States Trade Representative, McCalip, as requested.
Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng and Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Taylor attended the meeting and related activities.
