According to a recent announcement on the website of the Russian Animal and Plant Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, starting from December 4th, Russia will ban the import of vegetables and fruits from certain areas of Moldova.
The Russian Animal and Plant Inspection and Quarantine Bureau stated that due to the continuous detection of quarantine substances in vegetables and fruits imported from Moldova that may cause billions of dollars in losses to Russian agricultural production, as well as the lack of response from the Moldovan side to the Russian side's note and the failure to take effective measures to prevent the supply of contaminated products to Russia, Russia will resume import restrictions on Moldovan vegetables and fruits from December 4, 2022.
The Moldovan side stated that the Russian decision is unfounded and has harmed the interests of Moldovan producers.
On August 9, 2022, the Russian Animal and Plant Inspection and Quarantine Bureau announced a temporary ban on importing vegetables and fruits from multiple regions of Moldova starting from August 15 of that year, citing Moldova's failure to comply with Russian quarantine requirements. In December of the same year, the Russian side gradually lifted this import restriction.
