Russia Could Start Growing Bananas in Greenhouse By 2026

Russia's Stavropol Krai is set to develop a high-tech greenhouse complex dedicated to the cultivation of bananas and other tropical fruits, marking a significant step in Southern Russia's agricultural practices. The region's Governor, Vladimir Vladimirov, recently convened with an Azerbaijani investor to finalize plans for this innovative project, slated for a 15-hectare plot in the city of Nevinnomyssk.

The project represents a substantial investment, with funding expected to reach approximately 1.4 billion rubles ($18.2 million). While the production will primarily focus on bananas, the facility will also cultivate mangoes, avocados, and passion fruit. Scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, the complex aims to boost the region's agricultural diversity and sustainability.
