SML Limited, a leading innovator with more than five decades of proven expertise in making differentiated and patented platform formulation technologies in crop protection and crop nutrition for sustainable agriculture and having businesses over 80 countries globally, has announced the development of a New Chemical Entity (NCE): Fenargimine. This novel nematicide compound is designed to address one of the most pressing challenges in agriculture - plant-parasitic nematodes.

Plant parasitic nematodes cause crop losses over $157 billion (≈12% of yield) annually worldwide; and India remains one of the most affected regions, with nematode infestations threatening key crops such as fruits, vegetables, pulses, sugarcane, cotton, spices, cereals, oilseed and plantation crops.

Fenargimine is poised to offer a groundbreaking, science-driven solution with a unique mode of action, high efficacy, and a favorable environmental profile.

"With Fenargimine, we are delighted to offer an innovative and sustainable tool for farmers across the globe and in India, where nematode infestations cause hidden but massive yield losses every year. This molecule represents our commitment to science-based innovation discovered indigenously by our R&D based at SML Discovery Centre, Umargam, Gujarat, and is dedicated to the prosperity of Indian and global farmers," said Ms. Komal Shah Bhukhanwala, Director R&D & IP, SML Limited.

Fenargimine is poised to offer a comprehensive broad-spectrum control of major plant parasitic nematodes in all major crops with a promise of sustainability at the core. It has been designed to protect crop yield and quality, offering consistent benefit across varied geographies & cultural practices.
